By now you have probably seen the video of Jay Leno introducing the
all-new Jaguar XJ. Having spoken to design director, Ian Callum
(also featured in this issue), and his former boss at Ford Motor
Company, J Mays, I can acknowledge their sense of pride in a truly
marvelous machine. The new XJ is a stunning departure from the
traditional Jaguar yet the results are bound to bring Jaguar to the
top of the premium luxury sedan mountain. The XJ has an array of
new technology with a lightweight aluminum space frame, a panoramic
roof, and multimedia connectivity in three main trim levels and two
wheelbases. The new XJ model comes base, Supercharged, and
Supersport, each available with a standard wheelbase (XJ) or an
extended wheelbase (XJL) that adds 5 inches of legroom. With a
starting price of $72,500, the base model comes with a naturally
aspirated 5.0L V8 engine delivering 385hp and 380lb-ft of torque.
The extended wheelbase model starts at $79,500. The 5.0L V8
Supercharged edition (470 hp/ 424 lb-ft of torque) starts at
$87,500 for the standard wheelbase (XJ) and $90,500 for the
extended wheelbase (XJL). The 5.0 L Supersport edition (510 hp/461
lb-ft of torque) starts at $112,000 for the XJ and $115,000 for the
XJL. Orders will be taken at the end of the year with delivery
scheduled for early 2010, for more information visit www.jaguar.com.
